Unum one of the 50 most community-minded companies in the U.S
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (June 17, 2019) — Employee benefits leader Unum (NYSE: UNM), has been named an honoree of the “Civic 50” by Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service. The annual ranking provides a national standard for superior corporate citizenship and showcases how companies can use their time, skills and resources to impact their communities.
Honorees in the Civic 50 are public and private companies with U.S. operations and revenues of $1 billion or more, and are selected based on four dimensions of their U.S. community engagement program including investment, integration, institutionalization and impact.
“Unum has a long history of making a difference in people's lives, from our customers to our employees — and, just as importantly, to the communities where we live, work and play,” said Cary Olson Cartwright, assistant vice president of corporate social responsibility for Unum. “It’s an honor to receive this award by the Civic 50, and we thank them for recognizing our commitment to the communities we serve and support.”
Unum scored particularly high for total volunteer hours, senior leadership involvement and employee incentives programs, such as paid time off to volunteer, grant matching, awards and more. In 2018, the company:
- Invested more than $13.2 million in total corporate and employee contributions to charitable causes
- Collected more than 1 million meals for various non-profit partners
- Logged more than 67,000 volunteer hours
The Civic 50 survey instrument consists of quantitative and multiple-choice questions that inform the scoring process. It’s the only survey and ranking system that exclusively measures corporate involvement in communities.
